Why you should get references from past clients

Last Updated: Jul 27, 2016 12:32PM BST

Tutorfair is constantly getting feedback from our users to improve the quality of our service and get tutors more work.

One of our questions to clients is: what makes you pick one tutor over another?

Whilst there is a multitude of reasons, one of the most common is: have other people been happy with this tutor before?

Think of it a little like eBay. You are much more likely to buy from a seller who has reviews from other buyers, rather than one who doesn't. It's the concept of "social proof": if others have been pleased, then I'm likely to too.

Use this principle when thinking about your Tutorfair profile.

We appreciate that there can be a bit of a "chicken and egg" problem of clients giving you reviews, but needing reviews to get clients, and so we give you the ability to get feedback from clients who haven't yet booked you on the site.

In Tutorfair language, these are called references.

The process for getting references is simple.

Head to the request references section of your home page, fill in the name and email address of your referee, and they will receive a link to fill out the form. Once filled out, it will appear on your profile!

Read this article for more details.

If you have done tutoring previously then getting references on your profile is an absolute must. If you have not, then think about other people (university professors, previous employers) who can give you a reference about your non-tutoring work.

Taking a few minutes to reconnect with past clients and students to ask if they could write a few sentences for your profile will have a huge impact on your chances of getting bookings on Tutorfair.
